Biography

Prof. Kimiyo Kikuchi is a Professor at Kyushu University, Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies. She obtained Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in Health Sciences at the University of Tokyo, and her Master’s degree in Philosophy at the University of Paris VIII.
She has previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Health and Community Medicine at the University of Tokyo, a Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences at Kyushu University, and an Associate Professor at the Medical Information Center of Kyushu University. In 2023, she was awarded a Fulbright Research Fellowship and joined Harvard University as a Visiting Scholar.
Prof. Kikuchi’s research focuses on improving maternal and child health outcomes, with an emphasis on the continuum of care and its quality. She leads research projects including an ICT-based study of maternal and child telehealth care in low- and middle-income countries. Her commitment to improving maternal and child health earned her the 2023 Women’s Challenge Award from the Cabinet Office, Government of Japan.
