Biography
Dr. Saif Ullah Munshi is a distinguished virologist and Professor at the Department of Virology, Bangladesh Medical University (BMU), Dhaka, with over 22 years of academic and research experience. He currently serves as the Dean of the Basic Science and Paraclinical Faculty and Director of the Super Specialized Hospital at BMU. Dr. Munshi completed his MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1996, M.Phil. in Medical Virology in 2003, and earned his PhD in Molecular Virology from the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, in 2013.
He has led and participated in over 15 national and international research projects, including HIV, HCV, and syphilis surveillance among key populations and prisoners, and nationwide studies on drug abuse. His research integrates molecular virology with public health, and he has published 61 peer-reviewed articles. He has collaborated with WHO, UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Global Fund and serves as a reviewer for international journals.
Dr. Munshi’s work spans diagnostics, molecular epidemiology, and disease surveillance, with a focus on hepatitis, HIV, and vector-borne diseases. His contributions continue to inform public health policy and clinical practices in Bangladesh and globally.
