Dr. Helen Benedict Lasimbang

Professor Dr. Helen Benedict Lasimbang is a former Director of Hospital Universiti Malaysia Sabah (HUMS) and a senior Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. She earned her Medical degree and Master’s in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Malaya. Dr. Lasimbang has been actively involved in teaching, research, clinical work, and community service. She practised as a clinician with the Ministry of Health of Malaysia for 12 years and worked in a private hospital in Sabah for 9 years before joining University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) in 2012. At UMS, she has held several positions, including head of the Department of Reproductive Health and deputy dean of Postgraduate and Research at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. In addition to her academic and clinical work, she is an active member of various Professional Medical societies and has been involved in community work through non-governmental organizations. Dr. Lasimbang has served as the Chairperson of MERCY Malaysia Sabah Chapter, president of the Association for Prevention of Alcohol Misuse (APAM) and has been active in other non-governmental organisations. Her areas of interest include women’s health, rural and neglected community health, as well as well-being and happiness.
