Biography

Dr. Mithila Faruque is a distinguished public health professional leading the Department of Noncommunicable Diseases (NCD) at Bangladesh University of Health Sciences (BUHS) since 2015. She earned her medical degree in 2003 and a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) in 2011 and was awarded the Next Generation Public Health Experts Project (NGPHEP) fellowship in 2013. Currently, she is pursuing a PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals. Dr. Faruque’s work focuses on teaching, research, capacity building, and advocacy in public health, with specific interests in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, disease prevention, risk assessment, hypertension, and lifestyle interventions. She has played a key role in the Noncommunicable Disease Control (NCDC) Program, enhancing primary health care through implementation research and training since 2016. Notably, she developed a digital NCD management model to address hypertension and diabetes in rural Bangladesh and has been pivotal in community behavior change initiatives. Dr. Faruque is also leading the Bangladesh team in the multi-country ‘ACROSS’ project, funded by NIHR, UK, in collaboration with the University of Glasgow. Her extensive experience in research, project management, and collaborative efforts, alongside her numerous publications, underscores her prominence in the field.
