Biography

Dr. Hossain Md Shakhawat is an Associate Professor at Kochi University of Technology, Japan, and leads the Medical Imaging and AI (AIM) Lab. His research focuses on developing AI-driven healthcare solutions, with particular expertise in medical image analysis, diagnostic automation, and clinical decision support systems. He completed his PhD in collaboration with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, where he worked on AI-based cancer diagnosis using digital pathology images.
Dr. Hossain has over a decade of experience applying machine learning and computer vision techniques to address clinical challenges, including cancer detection and grading, residual tumor assessment, therapy recommendation, and multimodal data integration. His work bridges cutting-edge AI research with practical healthcare applications, ensuring clinical relevance and real-world utility. He has also led projects aimed at developing affordable, user-friendly diagnostic tools for resource-limited settings. With a strong commitment to healthcare equity, Dr. Hossain is actively exploring multimodal AI, combining medical images with patient history and clinical data to improve diagnostic accuracy and accessibility.
